Influence of ICT Integration on Administrative Effectiveness of Principals in Public Secondary Schools in FCT

Abstract

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into educational administration has transformed the management of schools by enhancing efficiency, communication, and decisionmaking processes. This study examined the influence of ICT integration on the administrative effectiveness of principals in public secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria. Specifically, the study investigated the extent to which ICT utilization improves administrative functions such as planning, record management, communication, supervision, decision-making, staff management, and resource allocation. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, with principals and teachers in selected public secondary schools serving as the study population. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the relationship between ICT integration and administrative effectiveness. The findings revealed that ICT integration significantly enhances principals’ administrative effectiveness by improving the accuracy of record keeping, facilitating timely communication, promoting data-driven decision-making, strengthening instructional supervision, and increasing overall operational efficiency. However, the study also identified several challenges hindering effective ICT integration, including inadequate ICT infrastructure, irregular electricity supply, limited internet connectivity, insufficient funding, inadequate technical support, and inadequate ICT competency among some school administrators. The study concluded that effective ICT integration is a critical determinant of administrative effectiveness in contemporary secondary school management. It therefore recommended increased government investment in ICT infrastructure, continuous professional development programmes for school administrators, improved internet access, and the formulation of sustainable ICT policies to strengthen educational administration in public secondary schools. The study contributed to the growing body of knowledge on digital leadership and educational management by providing empirical evidence on the role of ICT in enhancing administrative effectiveness within the context of public secondary schools in the FCT, Nigeria.
