Abstract

This study, An Eco-Critical Analysis of Environmental Degradation in Yerima’s Hard Ground, examined the use of ecocriticism as a theoretical framework for understanding how literary texts portray the relationship between people and the physical environment, and what those portrayals reveal about ecological values. The study adopted a qualitative research methodology, using content analysis as the method of data analysis and drawing on the theoretical principles of ecocriticism. The findings showed that nature and literature have always shared a close relationship, as evidenced in many creative works across diverse cultures of the world. The study concluded that climate change, conservation, deforestation, and environmental degradation are increasingly affecting lives globally, and that literature provides an important means of processing and understanding these environmental challenges.
